Mixed Integer Linear Programming formulations of the stacking sequence and blending optimisation of composite structures

This manuscript proposes two novel formulations for the manufacturable stacking sequence retrieval of laminated composite structures . Detailed sizing is commonly tackled by a two-stage optimisation approach, first stage being weight minimisation resulting in continuous thickness and stiffness distribution structure. The second stage, which focus current paper, aims at retrieving sequences that match optimised target characteristics while also fulfilling set predefined design manufacturing rules, with blending one most crucial ones. problem layered designs meet all prescribed rules formulated as Mixed Integer Linear Programming instances mainly differ how treated. Using either formulations, mathematical programming algorithms can be employed to solve global optimality Results show both produce solutions fulfil imposed rules. High-quality obtained consistently, benefiting from increased freedom concerning formulation.
